Educationeering is a podcast about pioneering your own education and becoming a self-learner. The Chief Educationeer, Lolita Allgyer, reached out to me about creating a logo for them. The finished selection is on your left. I took some extra time to animate a GIF for them to put their logo into action. I had recently done a project on animation but this is the first GIF I have created. Below, you can read about the process and Lolita’s thoughts.
(Original) Logo 1.
Nothing resembles educational growth like a graduation cap. It is the goal of all formal education. The beauty of what Educationeering will provide is that education is not something you graduate from but something that continues every day.
(Revisited) Logo 1
I touched up the original logo 1 by tweaking the black in the cap to a more muted shade. I also moved the cap to the front of the E just to clean the image up.
Logo 2
I believe that in 2018 all logos should have both a square and horizontal representation. Space and use are huge factors when considering logos.
Logo 3
With this logo, I used a minimalist pencil/bow and arrow. The pencil is a classic symbol of education and the bow and arrow was a tool of the first pioneers. In combination, it proposes action in the pushing forward of education.
I asked Lolita, “If educationeering was in the dictionary, what would it say?” The answer was “pioneering education; trailblazing the path of modern learning.”
When I scaled that text down, I had one small issue. The word learning was running into the G. To solve this issue, I borrowed a small technique from an unlikely source; the logo from the TV show Gossip Girl. By exaggerating the hook of the G, I was able to fit the mission statement in the gap and the unique text adds character to the branding.
