In the book, “The War of Art,” the concept of resistance is laid out as a force that opposes us from becoming the best version of ourselves. It is constantly working to confuse, deter, distract, and defeat us from becoming the fullest version of ourselves.
I learned something about resistance today. It grows stronger if you feed it. If you spend time considering the fun alternatives to what needs to be done, resistance will beat you. If you lay in bed thinking about how tired you are and how you can get it done tomorrow, resistance will beat you.
Imagine it like a door. It’s much easier to keep a door shut that is never open. If you crack the door open even just a little, it’s easy to be pushed all the way. Resistance wants you to acknowledge it. It wants you to consider what it has to say. It wants you to hit snooze or skip leg day because then you are easier to beat tomorrow.
16 days ago, I committed to blogging and publishing every day. Today, I packed up a U-Haul and drove 14 hours. As I lay on an air mattress in an empty house after an exhausting day, I could break that commitment to myself. Resistance would love nothing more. Just like the gremlins, don’t feed resistance after midnight.
